Meet the Dental Providers

Roxanne Siegrist, DDS, MS

Dr. Siegrist is a passionate and dynamic dentist. She has found that the possibilities for a dentist are endless. Throughout the day she plays many roles: surgeon, mechanic, architect, artist, scientist, detective, and coach.

Dr. Siegrist graduated with a B.A. in Biological Sciences from the University of Chicago in a curriculum that encouraged multi-disciplinary and analytical thinking. Then she earned her Master’s Degree in Science, working in the wetlands of Louisiana, looking at metabolic patterns in microbial communities. This research sparked an interest in the human microbiome and the view that the mouth is just a really cool miniature wetland. Dr. Siegrist got her dental degree at the State University of New York, Stony Brook, a small dental school with intensive clinical training.

Polina Pikhulia, EDDA

Restorative Artist

Polina is from Chelyabinsk, Russia, a town in the Ural Mountains made famous by the 2013 meteor. Polina’s aptitude in science and visual arts directed her to dental training at an early age. She attended dental school in Russia for four years before falling in love and relocating to the US. Polina is fabulously artistic, meticulous, and passionate about dentistry. She reveres the form and function of every individual tooth and her tooth sculpting skills are unsurpassed. In her freetime, Polina is learning lightwire orthodontic appliance fabrication, a highly artistic and technical enterprise comparable to fine jewelry creation. Polina loves hiking, mountain biking, skiing, and her labrador, Max.

Christopher Rooney, DDS

Dr. Rooney is a lifelong resident of Kansas City, but spends regular time with us in Crested Butte where he has a second home. For over 20 years, Dr. Rooney has honed his craft, specializing in advanced oral surgical procedures, dental implants, and reconstructive dentistry. He is among the nation’s top specialists, and serves as a Diplomat of the American Board of Oral Implantology — one of the top credentials an implant dentist can achieve. With an exacting personality, Dr. Rooney scrupulously plans every facet of each implant case.

About The Staff

With diverse backgrounds in ecology, anthropology, and physics, the team members at Integrative Dentistry are more than your average tooth wonks…

Cassidy Tokunaga

Registered Dental Hygienist

Cassidy made it her priority to move to Crested Butte the day after graduating college because it’s her favorite place in the world! Before receiving her hygiene degree, Cassidy studied exercise science and anthropology at Colorado State. She strongly values preventative medicine and views dental hygiene as an essential piece of good health. Cassidy’s views her role as a hygienist to ultimately decrease systemic disease in her patients by addressing oral health. Currently, Cassidy is working toward her accreditation in biological hygiene. Cassidy loves skiing, mountain biking, Taylor Swift, the Denver Broncos, and her Bernese Mountain Dog, Stella.

Kayla Hanson

Holistic Health Coordinator

Before working at Integrative Dentistry, Kayla worked for the forest service. Kayla studied environmental science and sustainability at Western. Her experience in caring for the health of the environment has naturally lent itself to a passion for holistic medicine. Kayla is especially interested in airway health and the oral microbiome. She is also our office product tester, trying out the latest and greatest in holistic oral and airway health products.

Mary

Administrative Assistant

Mary moved to Crested Butte from Atlanta on a whim after a ski trip and has never looked back. After graduating from Georgia Southern University and working in hospitality for most of her life, she started working at Integrative Dentistry this past spring. She brings a positive attitude and a love for healthy, mindful living to the practice. She enjoys learning all about airway health as well as biological and functional dentistry and how it all is connected! In her free time, she enjoys going to see live music, traveling to new places, hanging out with her Griffon-Dor, Dolly, mountain biking, and is training for her first marathon in the fall.

Anne

Administrative Assistant

Anne is originally from the Chicago area but moved to Gunnison last fall. She earned her bachelor’s degree in Psychology and Education from Cornell University. She enjoys connecting with patients and being a part of the positive, supportive team at Integrative Dentistry. In her free time, she loves climbing 14ers, trail running, and playing Shrek chess.

Rachel

Dental Assistant

Rachel is originally from Santa Barbara. She earned her degree in Ecology and Evolutionary Biology and a Minor in Public Health from CU Boulder. She enjoys working with her hands, collaborating in a holistic practice, and connecting with people in the community. In her free time, she enjoys mountain biking, backpacking, and skiing.

Tai

Dental Assistant

Tai is originally from Colorado Springs and moved to Gunnison to attend Western Colorado University in the Fall of 2019 to pursue a degree in Biology and a minor in Sociology. She is applying to hygiene school this fall and is looking forward to working alongside Cassidy over the next year. Outside of work, Tai enjoys hanging out with friends and family, traveling, and floating on the river.

Erik Peterson

Systems Manager

Erik studied economics and physics at Western Colorado University. He loves solving problems and following systems. Erik brings a quantitative sensibility to Integrative Dentistry so that we can keep our practice running smoothly. He has a rock solid dependable personality and gets the job done. Erik also enjoys deep conversations with Dr. Siegrist about quantum orthodontics. Erik is a fly fisherman in his free time.

Meet Sprocket!

Clinical Support Pup

Sprocket is our most popular team member. After his owner died, he was brought to the Aztec Animal Shelter, in New Mexico. As an 11 pound shih tzu mix, he held his own with the rough and wild reservation dogs of the four corners. After 6 months, he was brought to the area by Gunnison Underdog Rescue. Dr. Siegrist went to meet him and immediately knew that he was the sidekick she needed to treat children and phobic patients. Sprocket is the perfect size to cuddle in your lap. He loves to be held on his back and will close his eyes like a babydoll when you lay him back. The children and adults absolutely love him.

This research sparked an interest in the human microbiome and the view that the mouth is just a really cool miniature wetland. Dr. Siegrist got her dental degree at the State University of New York, Stony Brook, a small dental school with intensive clinical training.
After dental school, Dr. Siegrist worked for the National Health Service Corps in rural Arkansas. As a solo dentist in a profoundly underserved area with a 500 person waiting list, Dr. Siegrist quickly gained experience, especially in pediatric dentistry and oral surgery.
Dr. Siegrist has been practicing general dentistry in Crested Butte for ten years. She has transformed a rural general practice into a thriving center of alternative dentistry. Dr. Siegrist loves every aspect of general dentistry, but she is particularly committed to helping children grow their jaws and airways to their greatest potential and rehabilitating adults to mitigate the effects of poor growth and retractive orthodontics. She is always asking how the mouth can impact the rest of the body including the nervous system, the airway, and systemic health. Dr. Siegrist is an incessant learner, dedicated to continuing education and participating in diverse professional study clubs.

Dr. Siegrist lives a lifestyle of alternative health. She is a home-birthing, kombucha-brewing, long-term breastfeeding, fascia-transfiguring mountain mama. She has three rambunctious and brilliant sons, Jack, Charlie, and Teddy, and two rescue dogs, a big dog, Hoss, and a little dog, Sprocket. She sees motherhood and her profession in health care as synergistic– being a mother drives the endless learning to make lives better and being a healthcare provider drives the knowledge to support her children’s best health.

The natural beauty of Crested Butte is a source of constant joy for Dr. Siegrist. She loves to experience nature in solitude and enjoys hiking and Nordic skiing. Her favorite thing is being in the woods after fresh snowfall. She plays old time string instruments. Her latest musical project is learning mystical modal tunes on a fretless, goat-skin, clawhammer banjo.
